First, a Doctor Who fic rec:
Bed Bath and Beyond by
cjk1701. Written for
sizeofthatthing, although not listed in their master list for some reason.
I found this doing a random search on whofic yesterday when I was overcome with a need for Donna fic (omg Donna don't leave me. *sob*). It's lovely, with understated angst, and is surprisingly hot for being more DoctorDonnafriends than Doctor/Donna. And short, as most Donna fic seems to be at this moment. Set post Midnight, no spoilers for 4x11 or 12.

The new Quantum of Solace trailer!!
I've watched it mumble number of times.
( how much did I love this trailer, let me count the ways )
I tell you, it might not be a quantum of solace, but that trailer's helping to distract very nicely. And dang, don't have my Bond icon any more. poo.

Okay, waiting for this episode was an exercise in extreme torture. Weirdly, despite the way this ep ended, I'm feel less wound up than last week... oh wait, no, there it is again. eeeeee.

I'm either bored or anxious! You decide!

When you see this post, quote from Doctor Who on your LJ.
JACKIE: Give it here, what do you need?
DOCTOR: Anything with vinegar!
JACKIE: Gherkins!
JACKIE: Yeah! Pickled onions!
JACKIE: Picked eggs!
DOCTOR [to Rose]: You kiss this man?
What? It's funny!
~~~
I know the one thing you all were wishing you had in your life right at this moment was a clip of Chris Martin from Coldplay with Ricky Gervais playing Andy Millman playing Ray Stokes from Extras singing Fix You together, right? RIGHT?
It's the busting out laughing at the end that makes it, imo.
Changing the rules slightly, I've bolded those I've read and put an astrick* next to those I have on my shelf but haven't read; and assume I intend to read anything not bodly eventually, one day, sometime in the future.Strikethrough the few I never could finish for one reason or another. I'm not so lazy that I don't do the meme, but too lazy to do it properly. ;)
( big read meme thingie )
The one Austen novel missing is Northanger Abbey. Tilney gets no love, I tell you. Also, strange lack of Oz books, I say.
Things wot life looks like:
--I dragged my ass from bed at 6:30 AM this morning, so I could go to a 7AM yoga class. Go me?
--I was so concerned about getting up at 6:30 AM, since normally don't actually roll out of bed until somewhere between 8:15 and 8:45 AM, that I woke up like 3 times during the night. D'oh!
--Why this yoga class, you ask? Because this particular instructor is, like, seriously hot, dude, and he says things like "Relax. Relax your sexual organs." in a really sexy voice. And he only teaches at my studio at 7AM.
--Yeah, you thought I was all healthy-minded and an uber-yoga practicing yogi or something all about the namaste, didn't you. hah. More fool you.
--Although, in actuality, despite how hot this guy is, he's an excellent yoga instructor, so it isn't ALL about teh sexy. Only mostly.
--Of course, now it's 10:40 in the morning and I'm like totally ready for a nap. zzzzzzzz.
--You'll all be happy to know that, despite last weekend being ridiculously hot here in So. Cal., I hydrated and ate properly and did not almost pass out on my horse during my riding lesson. Hurrah. I had a lovely pony called Virginia who let me tack her with only minimal angst, very responsive, and we got to canter! woo. And I was barely sore afterward, so yay. Gaining leg strength, which I didn't even know I didn't have.
--Yesterday I had over 3000 unread emails loitering in my inbox, all from email lists I'm no longer very active on in more than one fandom. I deleted them all! Mostly unread, too. Right now I have 0 unread emails. I thought it would be somewhat cleansing to get rid of it all, but the empty inbox is sad and lonely now. d'oh!
--All of the above is to give the impression that I am not OMG FREAKING OUT about Doctor Who this weekend. Tifah!freak out is very lalalalaI'mokaylalalalalalaEEEEElalalala. I accidentally (not on purpose) spoiled myself for something relating to the last two episodes and I was in a funk about it all day yesterday. And it wasn't even a spoiler for anything I care about, not really, and still I was like OMG WHAT DID I JUST DO WAHAHAHAA. This watching a show as it airs blows donkey dick.
And
fannish5! I never do these, but I liked this one.
Name 5 characters you didn't like at first, but eventually learned to love.
In no particular order:
1. Fanny Price (Mansfield Park, Jane Austen) -- In actually, it wasn't that I initially didn't like Fanny, although she rather embodies that sort of character who you feel you have to like only because she's so "good", but I didn't feel much love for the entire novel because it's the only one of Austen's books where I *doubted* that Fanny and Edmund were meant to be together (I rather think Edmund is a boob), not in the way the couples in her other novels are meant to be together. But, since then, I've truly begun to think it's one of Austen's better work, and come to appreciate Fanny for the tiny, dark, unpleasent bits in her character.
2. Severus Snape (Harry Potter, JKR) -- Abstactly I understood why HP fandom loves Snape so much, but I certainly didn't care for him much until his character became complete with the final book. In the novels, Snape is infinitely fractured and broken and stubbornly mean with a bravery born from love that's a little amazing, with whatever redemption he may recieve never occuring in life. I loved that; and it broke my heart.
3. River Song (Doctor Who) -- I'm still trying to process what I feel about River Song, but I loved her for two reasons: ( spoilers! )
4. Linus Caldwell (Ocean's 11) -- I'm not sure why I have him here, but truly, I seriously didn't like Linus in the first film, but then by the third film I loved him. *shrug* Rather mirrors my disgruntled affection for Matt Damon. *g* bwah.
5. Tom Paris (Star Trek: Voyager) -- I always liked him, but I never ever thought I'd adore the character as much as I do now, starting off a Chakotay girl. I thought Tom Paris was just another blah character like all the others. I remember rolling my eyes over all of the Paris/Kim stories that kept multiplying liek bunnies. ahahaha. Acutally, I never did get into Paris/Kim all that much, but once I twigged to Chakotay/Paris, then I instantly loved him. heh. Sadly, Voyager was rather a gateway fandom for me; I fell fast and hard, but then never spent a lot of time there before moving off to Highlander, although I still, to this day, love the TV show ST: Voy so so much.
More Wordle fun. Excellent way to waste time. :D :D
My favorite of the bunch:
Using Nocturne (Dracula: The Series, Lucard/Sophie):
( The rest behind a cut, to spare the flist. Really random array of stories. I am random in my writing, as is painfully clear. I blame Yuletide. )
Although, I have no one else but myself to blame. *starts reading filtered list* I remain stubbornly unspoiled for the last three episodes of DW -- aside from very general casting spoilers and now some pics that people insist on making icons from.
Can't believe it's almost over, but perversely I'm SOOO GLAD because the stress, she is killing me. I need a break! DW will be over soon and I'll get a chunk of my life back, finally. hah.
I fail at TV, man.
In other news, I'm less sore this week, post horseback riding, than last week, and that's good. Although I had to cut my lesson short on Sunday because I was seriously about to pass out from dehydration and heat stroke. But I tacked my own horse (which I was stressing about like you would not believe. Throw me on any kind of horse and I'm good to go, but for some reason tacking a horse really unnerves me, but I did it!) and then rode rather well, even if it wasn't for the full lesson. The instructor had me do a rising trot with my feet free of the stirrups and the reins behind the pommel, arms like airplanes out to the side. Fun!
And next time, maybe I'll remember to drink water before my lesson, and also to eat. Eating is good. And maybe I shouldn't be out till 1am and going to bed at 3am after watching intense DW episodes the night before and being unable to sleep. Yes, not so much with the smarts, that.
I need a horsey icon.
One would think, because I've being around vidders for so long, and attending VVC every year since its inception, and having co-vidded several times now, I would know a thing or two about simply taking a quicktime file and converting it to DVD format, wouldn't you? Well, you'd be WRONG.
Best friend S asked me to help her take a quicktime .mov of a film she was in and convert it to DVD for an audition, and bless her, she thought all you had to do was burn it to DVD, and I was like... um, I think I know how to do this. lol.
It went something like this:
"Hmmm, maybe I should use iMovie? What do you think?"
"Sure!"
"Oh look, it's importing. Oh dang, twenty minutes.* *twiddles fingers*
"Now what? Is that it?"
"There should be some kind 'export to dvd' or something."
"Didn't I see that in the menu."
"Well, save project to dvd, don't think that's the same thing."
"Why not?"
"Archival! No, that's not it. Hmm, maybe I should open iDVD. Oh look, there it is, all ready to go. Wow, mac's are great. :D :D. Oooh, menu options. How do you want it to look. We need a jpeg." *flails around for jpeg*
"There's a save frame option."
"There is? Look at you being all smart."
"It happens."
"Okay, drag and drop... and voila. And ohh, type here *type type something goes poof when accidentally deleted!* Oh dear!"
"Hee. Little cloud of smoke."
"I know how to get it back! *tifah undos, victoriously* Hm, do I click this? Oh look, it's burning. I hope I was supposed to do that. Oh dang, another twenty minutes." *whistles*
*the two of us stare at it silently*
"*ding* Oh! it popped out!"
.... and it burned successfully. Man, I gotta tell you, it coudn't have been easier, trust those mac people to make it ready for complete idiots to poke around with. haha. I hadn't the foggiest idea what I was doing.
I'm loving all the Robert Downey Junior love that's popping up on my friend's list ever since Ironman was released. I love that guy; I wish him nothing but health and happiness. :D And I'm dying to see Ironman and see what all the fuss is about. heh.
But the real reason for the quote in the subject line is that I am, indeed, physically sore. It hurts to walk, and I have to grab hold of my leg to cross it over the other because otherwise my muscles refuse to obey.
This is because of a combination of horesback riding and yoga: two great things that [taste] great together? not so much. bwah.
Someone please tell me why in heck there is ANOTHER Incredible Hulk film? And one that looks exactly like the previous one, only differently cast? Not that I've actually spent any time watching trailers; I've only been subjected the the radio commercial while driving.
I was never allowed to watch the TV show when I was a kid, and probably wisely because even now I remember being rather disturbed by the concept of the show: this poor man who has to keep moving from place to place because inevitably he'll get angry and almost hurt those he's trying to safe. Jekyll & Hyde always disturbed me for similar reasons and, and to a much lesser degree, The Nutty Professor, too. hee. I crack myself up, but seriously, The Nutty Professor was totally disturbing!
I still remember a scene between the professor in his evil incarnation going on a date with the love interest, and they were in his car, parking, and he's all swagger and sexual energy. He gives her his hankerchief and says something like "wipe that lipstick off and get over here." A bit rough for what I thought was a kid's film. Possibly the first time I truly became aware of power dynamics between men and women.
And what does this have to do with The Incredible Hulk being rerelaesed? Um, nothing?
In other news, I had trouble sleeping last night for reasons that aren't really important and now I'm cranky and feel gross, in that way that happens when you're running on little sleep but still hyped up on adrenaline or nerves or worry or whatever. (and really nothing's going on or anything; let's just blame my period). And I'm also annoyed that if I call in sick I'm crippling the dept. I hate having a concious sometimes.
But, then, I love you all. So there's some positive energy for ya! *g*
So, no more IRC at work for me, folks, for those of you whom I hang our regularly with in chat. I got a (completely unofficial so no worries) warning from IT about it, so, that's that. I'm going to miss you guys! Even though I haven't been on much in recent days, of course *now* that I can't log on I find the lack of it galling. *meep*
I'm very excited about Get Smart. I can't help it! It might suck, but I don't think I care -- I'm excessively fond of Anne Hathaway ever since The Princess Diaries and then there's the magic of Steve Carell. YAY. Not to mention the fact that I *loved* Get Smart as a kid. It was so stupid and dumb and funny and ridiculous and I loved how predictable it was. I really wanted a phone in my shoe. And I *really* wanted Agent 99's knockout lipstick. I still do. Could have used that on a date I had just a couple of weeks ago. bwah.
Speaking of movies, ( INDY!! )
Goodness! Look what I found wandering around the internet. (work safe, unless you don't want to be distracted). hah. Well, that was, um, entertaining. I yingyang back and forth between finding Tennant attractive or not, but right now I'm swinging toward attractive (at least most definitely in the role of the Doctor).
I laugh at myself.
So I may have possibly over-indulged in wine last night, and judging by the two empty bottles on my kitchen counter, it's safe to say my assumption is correct. I also got my period today (sorry, is that tmi?) which is BAD TIMING because I was gonna go get a massage today and now I have to cancel. woe.
I hung out with my cousin last night (for those reading closely, yes I have a lot of cousins! And no, this one isn't the famous one. Wrong side of the family.) and it was with him that the wine got drunk (oooh, see tifah do good grammar). But! it was all in the name of making him watch Doctor Who so he can be a fan too. We got through to the two-part Slitheen episodes and then I sent him home at 2 am and I then tried to watch "Silence in the Library", which, when I say tried I mean I actually watched it all the way through but was a)tipsy and b)really tipsy and 3)sleepy because it was, you know, almost 3 am in the morning by the end of it, so I'm guessing that's why I managed not to be scared! hah! alcohol, defender of my delicate sensibilities.
Cousin-of-mine's best comment was "I want the Doctor to come and take me on adventures." Aww. hee.
( cut for hangover reactions to last night's DW episode )
Oh. head-poundy. I lie down.
Not only does the CBS website currently offer all three seasons of Star Trek: The Original Series for free, you can also watch all SEVEN seasons of MacGyver! And Twin Peaks!
This is very bad news for my work load. People, do you realize what this means?? MacGyver, any time I want him, at work, just a click away!
*quiver*
In other news, I have almost posted on a variety of topics but my attention span is at its all time low, can't really be arsed to be coherent for the time it takes to compose a post.
Hmmm, lessee, there's the news about Steven Moffat taking over DW which is old already. Seems most people are happy about it. Me, since I had no issues with Davies, I'm rather sad, actually, without being apprehensive for the change.
What else... Oh, I've been catching up on season 2 Friday Night Lights! Which I LOVE OMG. I forgot just how much I love this show, and these characters. After watching spindly geeky doctors flying around in blue boxes, it's kind of wonderful watching a bunch of strapping young men beat themselves up on a football field and fling their small town issues around at each other. Yes! Oh and Coach Taylor! And Landry, omg Landry. *wibble*
Not that I'd give up spindly geeky doctors who fly around in blue boxes, just to clarify. *ahem*
I completley snoozed through
misspamela's Top 20 Hottest Fictional Characters. Results found here, here, and here. And raw results for everyone here.
Sort of interesting to see where popularity goes. Love seeing so many female characters in the top 5. Dude, Fitzwilliam Darcy -- well, of course he'd make the list :D :D. Rather shocked and appalled Duncan MacLeod is so low, poor fellow, he's all forgotten! *pets him* I still think you're hot, my lovely highlander. *blows him kisses*. And totally bemused that the only Weasley on the master list is Percy. Huh? Also, why no Captain Kirk??
Also, vaguely wishing I found Dean Winchester more attractive. :/
Oh, and I watched and am all caught up on Lost: ( click here for nothing insightful )
~~~
In other other news, I'm all set for my first riding eval at The Equestrian Group yayz.
Oh, and Roomie and I have a kitty! Bailey is his name, and he's v. handsome and he knows it. bwah. I need pictures....
~~~
In other other other news, Doctor Who returns this weekend, THANK GOD. *clings*
Many happy birthday wishes to
devohoneybee, one of the most amazing woman I have the honor of calling my friend. Happy birthday, hon!
I'm all grad-u-ma-cated. In the end I'm glad I went, even though it was hella hot that day and all of us in our black graduation robes were *dying* in the heat, but I walked, I got pictured, I shook hands. All in all a success! (as soon as I get the pictures back, I'll post. Hopefully I won't look too wilted. lol.)
And then later that day I celebrated into the night with friends. Par-tay! heh. It was not very wild, but it was certainly lovely, and I had a couple of cousins with us whom I adore, and only good friends, so what could be better? Only having you all there, too! *hugs flist*
In other news, there was Doctor Who this weekend: ( Waspy Unicorns! )
My friend's eCard to me, from her cats. Hilarious.
Same friend also made me this: happy birthday.
bwah.
:D Today is my birthday, and it's also
rosy5000's birthday! And I think I saw birthday posts for a couple of others whom I'm afraid I don't know. Happy Birthday to us all! Rosy, this is a great day to have a birthday, if I do say so myself. May your day be full of brightness and sunshine and cookies. *g*
Best friend/roomie S gave me a Janeite T-shirt. I'm wearing it now! Awesome. I'm having sushi dinner with the 'rents tonight (and maybe there will be some DW watching wooo) but the hardcore partying will happen this friday after graduation. yayz.
~~~
Last year I managed to write fic for my birthday. And the other one I wrote for Killa way back, and always planned a third but I totally spaced on that. whoops. Maybe I'll manage something by the end of the month. I've been in a weird place about writing, I don't know why, probably just shock from finishing the novel. heh. Which, btw, I haven't even looked at since turning it into the school. I decided to give myself May, to let it ferment, before reading it again. *is fearful* :D

ETA: And thank you to
ariestess for the sparkles!

In other news, I *finally* have my car again. Besides the problem with the ignition coils, apparently the catalytic converter failed or something. So far so good with the driving and no warning lights coming on *knock on wood*. What's more, the warranty covered all of the engine fixes and my first mechanic refunded me for the work that needed to be redone at the dealers (which was, miraculously, less expensive at the dealer's for some reason). Bueno! I'm still waiting to hear back from the warranty people about some other work that I'm hoping have them refund me for, so all in all it might not actually have been that much out of pocket, considering my car was in the shop 6 times in just one month.

--Still haven't been able to fully unpack, due mostly to lack of certain furniture items like a desk (got rid of my old one but haven't bought a new one yet) and uncertainty on where what should go where. Also, I want to minimize the presence of a desk in my room because I really don't like it but I'm not yet at a position in life where I can afford a big enough place with enough space for an office. Bah.
--The above includes the fact that I haven't yet called the cable company, so still internetless and sans TV. The internet I miss, although the TV I don't miss at all.
--Work is being very work-ish. I resent this. I want to list all of my many issues with work but then I would have to lock this post and I'd rather not, but trust me, work is crawling up my butt.
--My birthday's this month, and then two days later I graduate. *big eyes*
--Since returning from Peru, my car has been in the shop a total of FIVE times. Yes, you read that right. FIVE. As in 5. Today I was at the dealership from 7am to 2pm. Pity me! It took a while to diagnose the problem (miss-firing code = bad coils! who knew?) and it required me taking it to a mazda dealership to fix it because my preferred mechanics couldn't figure it out (obviously, since it took FIVE TIMES) (and here I cross fingers that it is indeed fixed please God thank you). Luckily, the problem was covered by my warranty, although I still had to get all this other maintenance stuff done that's costly. bah. ETA: Damn it, the check engine light came back on. *sob*

I can't seem to be coherent this morning, or I'm sure I would come up with some insightful and coherent reactions but basically all I have is ( love love love. )
Thing #1: There's this guy at work with the last name Ramirez, which is a common enough last name of course, but me being a Highlander fan, I can't help but impersonate the Kurgan's gravely voice each time I have to say this guy's last name. "Rrrrammmmirezzzz." Although lately, it's sounding more like how the bunny says it. Bwah!
Thing #2: Sleeveface. Wacky! Some of these are really pretty cool. And I will never cease wondering at the human capacity for coming up with bizarre and cool ways of wasting time. *g* My one disapointment was that I didn't see anyone do a sleeveface for Hole's Live Through This album. Link courtesy of zefrank.com.
Thing #3: Flight of the Conchords! Flight of the Conchords! Flight of the Conchords! *ahem* Their new album is out -- songs mostly from their first season TV show. No live songs on this one, and some of the arrangements and lyrics are different. Well worth it, even if you bought the previous album (which has a few of the same songs on it, but still worth buying both since the first one is mostly live). New Zealand's 4th most popular guitar-based digi-bongo acapella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo aka Flight of the Conchords are currently in LA, actually, performing two shows at the end of the month, which I do not have tickets for, sadly, because I was slow to realize what was what with all the mayhem going on in my life, but I'm just happy knowing they're around and enjoying success. And, to make me *really* smile, here are scans of a recent photo spread where they dress up like other famous rock & roll duos. Captain and Tennille!! (Bret is Tennille. bwah!) Yoko Ono and John Lennon. hee. Wham! All of the shots are hysterical but my FAVORITE THING OF ALL THINGS EVER is this photo spread of Jemaine & Bret as David Bowie and Mick Jagger. Prancing in the Street. *dies* omg I love them so much. Quite possible, Jemaine pwns me. I'm just saying.

I'm still living in a sea of boxes, but I have at least unpacked all of my clothes (most of which were dirty, anyway, so there was less to unpack) but I am in a quandry regarding where to put what in my new room.
There is an ill placed air-conditioner messing up my feng shui, dang it all, and thus my bed has to be put in what's called in feng shui the "death positon". Yayz? There are ways to counteract this (which would require either a) getting a bedframe with a footrest or b) creating a footrest of some kind), or I can just block the darn AC with my bed, but I'm reluctant to do that -- it just seems a waste, even if there are not many days when I actually need an AC where I live (courtesy of the marine layer. woo). Or I can put my bed cross-wise, but I'd rather not. I think that's worse.
(see, this is what I do. I obsess over something like this -- something that I have control over -- in the face of life in general, of which I normally do not have control over.)
Eventually I will be able to concentrate on the fun parts of moving like decorating each part of my room to promote harmony and good energy. Or something. I never really got around to giving my previous bedroom or apt. any attention. It was always half-decorated or just sort of hobbled to gether with odd bits of furniture and artwork that never actually made it onto the walls. I will not do this again.
In other news, I do not have internet at home, nor cable. I'm skimming off of someone else's bandwith, which has dodgy reception in our apt., and which I feel bad about, but internet/cable is just going to have to wait for a bit. I also have to pull from the depths of my brain how to network computers again/set up routers. Each time I have to do this, I have to relearn it all over again. Bah.

And now, for some Doctor Who rambly thoughts.

God, I'm tired. But I'm all done. Everything moved into the new apartment, safe and sound. It feels weird to not be in my old place anymore, but I'm excited for the change, for the start of things that are new. yayzzzzzz.
If I had more brain power I would comment on yesterday's Doctor Who, which was whorific and had tons of stuff I loved loved loved and also some stuff that makes me want to hide. I realized last night that this is the first DW two-parter where I haven't been able to watch the second part right away. *big eyes* *trembling-lip*
Man, I'm out of practice for live-fandoms.
